RESEARCH

Current Projects

1. Harold Pinter Beyond the Stage. Funded by the British Academy, this project explores Harold Pinters work on the radio, for television, in film, in publishing and in poetry. It considers how Pinter's creative practice inside and outside the theatre was informed by his work in and across genres.

2. Beckett on the Move, a digital humanities project focused on visualising Samuel Beckett's literary geographies. The first phase of the project was supported by funding from the Samuel Beckett Research Centre, University of Reading. A beta version of one of the project's modules can be found here: https://beckettonthemove.wordpress.com/beckett-in-london/

3. Charles Tomlinson: Life & Letters. The first phase of the project is supported by a Ransom Center Distinguished Fellowship Endowment to conduct research for this project at the Harry Ransom Centre, Austin, TX, in 2023.

Some Recent Projects

1. Harold Pinter: Histories and Legacies (2017-2021)

This AHRC-funded project involved the creation of a production database spanning the career of Harold Pinter. I was responsible for the film, radio and television entries, and conducted extensive archival research as part of the project. Database: harold-pinter.ns-client.xyz/

William is currently working on a follow-up project with Dr Mark Taylor-Batty (University of Leeds) which will produce educational resource packs for schools. The project proposal is under review with the AHRC.

2. American Modernist Inheritances in Mid-Century British Poetry: 1945-1970 (2017-2019)

William was a research assistant tasked with analysing archival documents at Manchester University and the University of Essex related to the poet-critic Donald Davie, Carcanet Press, and the poet Charles Tomlinson. The research has led to a major funding bid, currently under review.
